I perform both substantive editing, in which I address big-picture questions like structure, theme, pacing, and characterization, and stylistic (line) editing, in which I address issues of style and clarity by helping refine the writing at the line level.

My particular areas of expertise include literary fiction, upmarket commercial fiction, memoir, young adult fiction, and narrative non-fiction. I am equally comfortable editing experienced writers as I am editing first-timers, and highly value meeting writers where they are. My focus is on working with an author to make their manuscript the best possible book it can be—and not what I think it should be.
