I’m Jane Warren.

I have worked in publishing for twenty-five years, including as a literary scout in New York City, a literary agent with Anne McDermid & Associates, an editor at Key Porter Books, and an editor at HarperCollins Canada. I was the recipient of the 2014 IV Programme’s Canadian Editorial Fellowship, and have participated in numerous publishing panels and workshops, including speaking at the 2023 Editors Canada Conference. I am a member of Editors Canada—see my profile in the Online Directory of Editors.

Books I have edited have won or been nominated for the Booker Prize, the Scotiabank Giller Prize, the Governor General’s Award, the Amazon First Novel Award, Canada Reads, and the Writers’ Trust Fiction Prize, among others, and have been national and international bestsellers. Some notable names among the many authors I’ve edited include Esi Edugyan, Helen Humphreys, Megan Gail Coles, Dave Bidini, George Elliot Clarke, David Macfarlane, Alex Shimo, Cecil Foster, Kevin Patterson, and Ayelet Tsabari.

Read an interview with me about editing ("Editor for Life") on BoldFace, the blog of Editors Toronto.

When I’m not reading or editing, you can usually find me talking (or writing) about trees, meditation, or movement practices, or just wandering around Toronto’s High Park pocketing cool leaves.
